My Journey To Becoming The
Highest-Paid Copywriter In India!

Cricket Has No Future – My Son Will Be An Engineer

Growing up, I was a BIG time introvert! The only way I could express myself and get any attention was when I was on the Cricket field.

I was a really good player… An all-rounder, a left-handed batsman, and a right-hand medium pacer. In fact, I was so good that I would get bored playing with kids my age. I would always play with people who were at least 6 years older than I was.

And no wonder, given my capabilities with the bat and the ball, I would always end up getting appreciated. I would get a lot of attention.

So the only thing I looked forward to in my life was the play-time.

Sadly for me, there was no IPL when I was in my 9th grade. And my parents thought, my time would be better spent studying and preparing for the boards than playing in the nets and representing my school. They felt there was no future in Cricket.

As you know by this point, I was an Introvert… I couldn’t fight for my dreams. I just put my head down and accepted what they asked me to do. Just like that, I gave up on my dreams. Deep within, I was shattered… I would go sit in some corner and cry when I was alone. But there was nothing more I could do then to protect my dream.

Like most parents, my parents wanted me to study hard and become an Engineer. And to be honest, I don’t blame them. When I look at most parents even today, nothing is changed. It’s still the same. Most parents today want their children to become Engineers and then do an MBA. They think it’s the path towards a safe and secure career.

So with my dream of becoming a Cricket gone, I just spent time studying and memorizing everything to get good grades and get admission into an Engineering college.

Well, all the memorizing paid off, I got into one of the best Engineering colleges in Bangalore. I was all set to become a software Engineer. Yay!

But there was a problem.

I HATED Coding. And I Did Not Want To Do A Job.

The Highest Paid Copywriter in India - Karan Dharamsi

Somewhere in the 6th semester, I realized one thing.

I HATED the idea of wearing formals and reporting to work. Not that there is something wrong with it. But it just did not feel right to me. It did not resonate with me. It wasn’t me.

You see, those 3 years of living all along in a hostel in Bangalore really helped me become Independent. I started to express myself. I became somewhat extroverted. I started to think for myself and most importantly, I started to dream again.

I dreamed of living life on my own terms… Like the cliche, no boss, not answerable to anyone.

I wanted the power and choice to do what I wanted to do.

And clearly, working in a TOP IT firm, the regular 9 to 5 wasn’t how I wanted to live the rest of my life. I wanted to explore life, make up for all the years I lost by trying to fulfill my parents’ dreams.

IT Job Interviews

So although I got placed in 2 BIG IT companies in the 6th sem… I was 100% clear, I wouldn’t take up the job offer.

And this time, I was ready to fight for my dreams.

But strangely, I did not have to fight my parents. They agreed. There was no drama. They were OK with me not taking up the job offer.

And BOOM – I took the next train to Mumbai. A city I always wanted to live in…

For the next couple of years, I went into an exploration mode.

I worked as a Trainer in an English Speaking Institute for a salary of 8K.

I was simultaneously auditioning and trying my luck in Ads and Television shows.

After a few months, I joined a gym as a trainer where I made 6K per month in salary.

Oh, and in the middle of all this, I left home and rented an apartment and started living alone.

If you live in Mumbai, 6K per month is not enough money to put decent food on the table. Forget all the protein shakes etc. And my rent was 8K per month.

No Money

This is when I realized that I needed to become serious about where my life was heading. My plans of living my life on my own terms weren’t working. Every day was a fight to make ends meet.

Sometimes, I wouldn’t have the money to even pay for the bus ticket. So I would walk all the way from Lokhandwala to Versova, where I lived.

The thought of quitting it all and going back home and getting a safe job was on my mind all the time. But I did not want to give up.

So I kept searching for money-making opportunities. And one fine day, I landed on this ad that said something on the lines of – Make XYZ dollars as a Content Writer.

I immediately clicked on the ad… And I landed on another site which asked for a few dollars in exchange for giving me a list of unlimited writing gigs that paid well.

Now, I knew nothing about writing.
In fact, I sucked at grammar. And everyone back in college made fun of how I wrote and spoke.

But thankfully, my wife, Sandhya Valecha, co-founder of ‘The Marketing Nerdz’, who I was dating back then was a published journalist and a columnist. So I knew she could write. And she could teach me how to write.

And if I got these content writing projects, we could both make money in dollars and she could quit her job and we could both spend more time together.

She liked my idea… And I started looking for Freelance Content Writing Jobs.

After a few weeks of trial and error and wasting some money here and there, we finally found – Freelancer.com.

The 1st Freelance Content Writing Project!

Highest paid copywriter in India Karan Dharamsi Talks about his first content writing projects

And after applying for a few days on Freelancer.com, I finally got our first freelance content writing project. Now although it was a very low paying project. Just $1. It was the start of the dream.

From there, all I did was apply on new projects and Sandy did the actual writing for the first few months till I got better at writing. And slowly, I started writing for clients too. My writing was getting better. Things were moving slow, we were working10-12 hours a day… But by this point, we were able to take care of our monthly expenses.

We kept doing this for almost 18 months. But by this point, we were starting to get frustrated with the little money we were making and the number of hours we were working.

Getting a job seemed like a better option. We would both make more money and wouldn’t have to work so long and deal with all the deadlines and pressure of writing for almost 12 hours a day.

Again, the thought of quitting and giving up started crossing my mind.

There were times when we would fall short of cash to pay our monthly bills because we wouldn’t find new clients that month. We just did not know what to do. We spoke about quitting so many times…

But deep down, that little voice always told me that no matter what, you will find your way. Don’t give up on your dreams. Not now.

So I kept looking, and one fine day, while I was searching for a new freelance content writing project, I came across a writing project which said – Copywriter wanted. And the pay for that project was about $350 for 5 emails.

My eyes popped out when I read the amount this client was willing to pay.

I had never heard about copywriting before. I did not know what was copywriting. Because all we had done up to this point was content writing. Write articles, blogs, etc. So I immediately started my research on Copywriting.

I searched for – What is copywriting?

What is copywriting - Learn from the highest paid copywriter in India

This is what I found – Copywriting is the art and science of selling products/services with the power of written words.

But here is something that caught my attention.

How much do copywriters make?

When I read the answer… I was SHOCKED.

I found that copywriters make anywhere from $200 to $1000 to write email copies. Clients pay copywriters $10000 to $30000 to write sales copies. And the top copywriters in the world make 6 figures ($100K) plus to write a single sales copy along with royalties.

I was completely blown away with the kind of money copywriting projects paid.

I thought to myself, here we were. Slogging and working up to 12 hours a day making a few hundred dollars a month. And there are people called copywriters making $100K or more every year writing copies. We need to learn copywriting.

This is when Sandy and I started learning copywriting.

TMN's Copywriting Course

Enter Craig: How to Charge More & Get High Paying Freelance Content Writing Clients

While we were learning copywriting, around the same time we decided to hire our first business mentor, Craig. I had been following Craig for a while and knew that he could help us charge more money for our content writing services.

In just a few weeks of working with Craig, we were able to increase our rates. We increased our rates from $1 to $5 to $25 and so on… In fact, I recorded a complete podcast on how we increased our rates for our content writing services. You can listen to the podcast here.

So you see, working with Craig really paid off.

Now, we were working less and making more money than ever before. I moved into a nicer and better apartment in Mumbai. Things were finally starting to look good.

I was slowly but surely moving towards the life I had always dreamed about.

With the number of clients now growing, a few months down the line, Sandy and I started our new company.

Contentorial – A Content Writing And Marketing Agency.

We hired a few writers to write all the content. While we focused on growing our content marketing agency and learning copywriting.

For the next 15-odd months, Sandy and I religiously invested at least a couple of hours every day learning how to write high converting sales letters.

We practiced writing every form of copy, be it:

 – Long-form sales letters

– Email sales copies

– Landing page copies

– And on and on.

At this point, I had no idea that in just the next couple of years, I would become the highest-paid copywriter in India. Heck, forget the highest-paid, I was yet to find our first copywriting client.

First Freelance Copywriting Client – The 1st Step Towards
Becoming The Highest Paid Copywriter In India!

Highest Paid Copywriter In India - Karan Dharamsi

Then out of nowhere, a client that we wrote content and articles for in the past, emailed us asking if we would write a sales copy for his SEO agency. He said, his budget was $1000.

This was it. It was the BIG moment we were waiting for.

You know, up to this point, we were still not confident if we were ready to take the jump into the world of copywriting. We were doing great with our Content Writing Agency.

But we knew, if we wanted to make the BIG money, our focus should be on Copywriting projects.

And when this client reached out to us, we immediately said, YES!

Although, the payment of $1000 was low considering it was a long-form sales page and from what we knew, most copywriters charged anywhere from $10000 to $250000 to write a sales page… We were happy to take up the project for JUST $1000 because we wanted that confidence, the initial boost, the validation that we could write a good sales copy.

Excited, we started working on the sales copy.

If I remember correctly, we sent the final version of the long-form sales copy to this client 2 weeks after we started working on it.

The moment we hit the send button, we were anxiously and nervously waiting to hear from him. We had butterflies in our stomach.

And after a few hours, we finally received his email.

Sandy read the email and we both JUMPED and DANCED with happiness.

He said, “I’m impressed. This is great guys.”

BOOM!

His email gave us all the confidence we needed. And it was only a matter of time that I was destined to become the highest-paid copywriter in India.

We Were Ready To Get New Freelance Copywriting Projects and Clients.

How to Get Copywriting Clients by Karan Dharamsi

We were on cloud 9.

In the next few weeks, we got a couple of new clients for Email Copywriting and writing a long-form sales copy for a fitness product.

In just the next few months, our revenue grew tremendously.

While the content writing agency was doing well, Sandy and I were now working on multiple Freelance copywriting projects.

Life looked good.

It was around this time that I got a new car and moved into an even BIGGER and Nicer house in Versova, Mumbai.

Till just a few years back, I was traveling in buses and we were struggling to make ends meet. And here we were, living the life of our dreams. Working for ourselves, making way more money than we would have had we taken up the corporate jobs.

Life looked good until this happened.

We Got Paid $10K For A Webinar Copywriting Project!

While we continued to gradually increase our copywriting fees, something BIG happened towards the end of 2015.

Nathan, one of our clients wanted us to write his Webinar Script. Up to that point, Sandy and I were charging about $4000 to write a webinar script. We knew it was low. The top copywriters in the US were charging anywhere from $10K to $20K to write a webinar script.

But we were scared to ask for a higher fee… We did not want to risk losing the client by asking for a higher fee. But when Nathan reached out to us, we decided that it was time to ask for what we deserve. It was time to join the league of Top and High Paid Copywriters.

If we lost his project, it’s was alright. We were making good money, so it was not like our life depended on it.

So Sandy sent an email to Nathan and quoted $10K for the project.

And in just a couple of minutes, Nathan sent an email saying – “DONE! Let’s do this!”

Highest Paid Copywriter In India Karan dharamsi and Sandhya Valecha

WHAT? Did he really say, YES!

We couldn’t believe it.

He agreed.

We were getting paid $10K to write a webinar script.

It was what the top copywriters in the US charged.
I did not know of any copywriter in India who charged anywhere close to $10K.

It was during this moment that I told Sandy, “We have officially entered the BIG League. We are officially the highest-paid direct-response copywriters in India”.

The feeling was unbelievable.

Just a few years back… I had read that copywriters get paid $10000 to write a single webinar script.

And here I’m getting paid $10K to write a webinar script.

Man, that moment. It was like the world had stopped. It just felt unreal.

Sandy and I pinched each other… Was this happening for real?

It was time for us to celebrate by going for a drive to Bandstand.

Drive Time

Fast-Forward to Today!

It’s been almost 5 years since we got paid the first $10K for a copywriting project back in 2015.

In the last 5 years, we’ve worked with a lot of Freelance Copywriting Clients from all over the world, especially: US, Australia, Canada, & UK.

We’ve written all kinds of direct-response copies, right from Sales letters, to Email copies, and everything in between.

In the last 5 years, we’ve made a great living writing as copywriters. And I can proudly say that “I’m the highest-paid online copywriter in India”.

It’s just been one heck of a ride.

I still feel it’s a dream.

I still find it difficult to BELIEVE that an average software engineer like me – who couldn’t write a single sentence in English without making mistakes… Someone who was made fun of for his writing… Is making way more money writing than all my Engineering class-mates including the ones that laughed at my writing.

I still can’t BELIEVE that a software Engineer like me can become the highest-paid direct-response copywriter in India.

And more than the money, learning copywriting gave me the choice and the freedom to live life on my own terms.

Today, I have the FREEDOM to travel where I want… I can work when I want…

I have the Personal and Financial FREEDOM to do what I want…

And all of this is thanks to learning the ART of Copywriting.

TMN's Copywriting Course

Well, this was a little bit about my journey from software engineering to becoming the highest-paid direct response copywriter in India.

I know this was long, but I’m a copywriter, so what do you expect, eh? 😉

Where do I go from here?

While I love writing copies, over the last few years, Sandy and I are personally writing only for a select few clients… Clients who can afford to pay $5000 per month for Email Copies.

Our focus has been on training our in-house writers so we could scale our agency and help more clients with copies that convert.

Also, a large majority of our time is now focused on growing the other businesses that we are passionate about.

In about a couple of years, my plan is to completely stop writing for clients and I’ll only be writing for TMN and my other businesses.

If you have been thinking about getting into copywriting, don’t waste your time thinking. Just jump into it. It’s a really rewarding career.

But here is something you should remember. As with anything worthy in life… And as you read in my journey, becoming successful at anything in life is NEVER a straight line. There will be periods of uncertainty, fear, chaos, etc that you may encounter when you transition into this new career.

If you are not Committed.

You are bound to FAIL at anything you choose in life. The odds are stacked against you.

You would give up at the first instance of those DARK moments, the time when your mind says – QUIT. Give up.

So remember this, if I can become the highest-paid direct-response copywriter of India. Anyone can become successful at this. All you need to do is start with a commitment to yourself that you will not give up.

And trust me, when you do that – you will find the way.

How to select the best content writing certification course

23 Sep How To Select The Best Online Content Writing Certification Course?

If you are wondering how to select the best Online Content Writing Certification Course, then you are in the right place.

And if you are thinking who is this guy and why you should listen to him… here is why.

My name is Karan Dharamsi. I’m the CEO of ‘The Marketing Nerdz’ – A Popular Digital & Content Marketing Agency in India. I’m also India’s Highest Paid Direct Response Copywriter. In fact, I make my living writing and a pretty good one at that…

Karan Dharamsi

So I guess now you know why I qualify to talk about this topic and why you should consider what I have to share with you in this article 🙂

OK, if you are reading this, I am assuming 2 things about you:

1) You are Interested in learning Content writing and

2) You want to know how to select the best content writing course so you can invest in the right course and kick-start your career as a content writer.

In this article, I’ll make sure that you find the answers to your questions.

So without further ado, let me dive deep into what you are really here for… Which is – How to select the Best Online Content Writing Course!

A good content writing course will fulfill the following criteria!

Criteria #1: Is the course mentor a successful content writer himself/herself?

The first thing you should always look for while trying to sign up a content writing course or any course, in general, is – the background of the Faculty or the Course mentors.

Content Writing Course Mentor

Who you learn from can determine how successful will you become with a new skill you are trying to acquire.

A good teacher can help you learn a new skill faster and accelerate your success.

So the first thing you should always look for in any course is – the professional background of the faculty or course mentor.

Check for the following:

1) Is the course mentor a successful content writer himself/herself?

2) Does the course mentor actually make a living writing or are they only a teacher?

Important: Always choose to learn from someone who makes a living writing. Anybody can teach today.
But not everyone can make a great living as a content writer.

If you want to build a successful career as a content writer, always select a content writing course where the faculty member is also a working content writer.

Criteria #2: The Course Syllabus – What would I learn from this Content Writing Certification Course?

It goes without saying, but the 2nd important criterion for selecting the best online content writing course is the course content. The course syllabus.

Course Syllabus

Today, as a content writer, you have various options.

You can write content for Blogs, optimize articles for SEO, or write content for Social Media.

A good content writing course will teach you how to write for different platforms.

You can find more details about my 4 Week Online Content Writing Course here – Click Here.

So after you scan through the professional background of the course mentor, and you are happy with the course syllabus. You should check the teaching style next.

Criteria #3: What Is The Teaching Style & Format Of The Content Writing Course?

Now, this is another important factor that you should consider before signing up for any course in general.

Content Writing Course Format

We all have a preference for a certain personality and teaching style.

For example, I prefer teachers who are casual and teach like a friend. And that’s my teaching style too in my 4 Week Online Content Writing Certification Course.

But if you prefer a more formal teaching style… Or if you prefer a certain language… You should make sure that the course you plan to select fulfills those criteria.

The best way to learn more about the teaching style of the course faculty is to search for their videos on YouTube. If the faculty member is popular and experienced, they would 100% have a lot of videos on YouTube.

Watch their videos, and decide if you like how they teach.

Once you are satisfied with the teaching style, you come to the most important criteria – The Content Writing Course FEE.

Criteria #4: Price Versus Cost – What is the Online Content Writing Certification Course Fee?

Now, you should be really careful at this step.

Content Writing Course Fee

You see, most people go wrong here. They start with the course fee.

The first thing they look at is the course fee. And they usually select the cheapest course.

The problem with trying to SAVE money on the course fee and selecting the cheapest but the wrong course is – It ends up COSTING you way more in the long wrong.

Let me explain this with an example.

Let’s say, your search for the keyword – Best online content writing certification course, and you check out the top 5 search results on Google.

You find that there are 2 institutes that approximately charge Rs 5000 for the certification.
2 other institutes charge Rs 3000. And one institute charges Rs 700.

Because the syllabus almost looks the same for all the 5 institutions… Most students end up selecting the cheapest option.

Now the problem here is – Most students going with the cheapest option did not check the background of the faculty member… Nor did they check the teaching style. They are not even sure if the person teaching actually makes any money writing apart from selling courses.

So although they SAVED money by selecting the cheapest online content writing certification course. It’s very likely that:

– They do not like the teaching style of the teacher.
– They only learn superficial things because the faculty member is not experienced.
– They don’t know what to do after completing the course… They are clueless on how to go about building their career.

Now, these students end up spending a lot of time trying to figure out the path to a successful career as a content writer.

Content Writing Course

Yes, you can save a few hundred bucks by selecting the cheapest course. But you end up wasting months in trying to figure out the path to building a successful career… Months where you could have made money in salary or freelancing.

So going with a cheap course without looking into the other criteria I listed here could help you save a few 100 bucks, but you end up losing a lot of money by not being ready to work as a content writer and thus not finding the right opportunities – either a job or freelance gigs.

And that’s why the course fee is something that you should compare or look into as the 4th and not the first criteria.

I hope this article helps you in selecting the best online content writing certification course and kickstarting your career as a content writer.

Oh, and before you leave, if you already haven’t, you should check out the new 4 Week Online Content Writing Certification Course we recently launched.

AI And The Future Of Content Writing

17 Aug The Future Of Content Writing Jobs – Will AI Take Over?

What’s the future of content writing jobs?
Is AI going to take over and replace content writers?

Well, if you are a Content writer or are planning to become one… I’m sure you must have thought about these questions.

In this article, I’ll share with you my thoughts on what I think is the future like for content writers…

I’ll cover the following points:

  • Can AI really replace Content Writers?
  • Is content writing still a good career option?
  • And if it is, what should you focus on to excel in your career as a content writer.

Oh, and if you want to be a professional and certified copywriter, join my 11 Week Online Copywriting Certification Course. I honestly believe that it’s the best online copywriting course out there. You can get all the course details here.

Alright, so without further ado, let me quickly dive deep into the Future of Content Writing.

The Future of Content Writing Jobs – Can AI Really Replace Content Writers?

Before we start reacting to the whole hype about AI, we first need to ask ourselves…

Is the current innovation in AI today ready to replace Content Writers?

And my answer to that is a BIG NO.

In fact, it’s not even close.

You know, this whole hype about AI replacing content writers started when the news about GPT-3 started doing the rounds.

It was around this time that a lot of individuals took to the hype and over-emphasized what GPT-3 could do.

But before I talk about this further. Let me quickly answer an important question.

What exactly is GPT-3?

GPT-3 And The Future Of Content Writing

Simply put, it’s the next advancement in the Auto-Complete Program.

Think of the time when you reply to an email from your Gmail account. And you type the word ‘Hi’.
Gmail automatically suggests the first name of the person you are replying to.

Or when you search for something on Google. And you type a word… Google search bar automatically suggests the next set of words based on your history and a lot of other factors.

This phenomenon where the AI suggests the next set of words is typically what an Auto-Complete Program is all about.

So you see, all the HYPE around GPT-3 and how it will replace content writers is ABSURD.

To begin with, GPT-3 is more of an Auto-Complete program build to predict what you would type next.
It’s not primarily designed to write content or articles on its own.

Anyone suggesting that doesn’t really understand GPT-3.

In fact, The Verve even wrote an article about this suggesting that the GPT-3 is flawed.

GTP-3 AI - Will it replace content writers?

Plus, writing is an art… A good writer can create content that moves or appeals to different human emotions.
While AI will keep getting better and better with the logical rationale of the human mind.

It will take a very long time for the AI to Understand human emotional patterns… Which comes naturally to a good content writer.

So yeah, now that you know there is no AI program even remotely close to replacing Content Writers.

Let me answer the next and the most important logical question.

11 Week Copywriting Course

The Future of Content Writing – Is Content Writing Still A Good Career Option?

Of course, it is!

In fact, in the post-COVID-19 world, the demand the good content writers went off the roof.

Today, no company can survive without an online presence.
A large majority of the offline marketing budget is now allocated for online marketing.

And when it comes to online marketing – everything is based on CONTENT.

Companies need a good content writer for:
  • Creating Social Media Posts
  • Write Articles and Blog posts
  • Create Email Campaigns
  • Write content for info-graphics
  • Create click-generating YouTube video titles
  • Write punchy text on banners
  • Video scripts
  • Product guide
  • Case-studies
  • Information Reports
  • E-Books
  • And on and on

So you see, the demand for good content writers is at an all-time high.

The salaries are great. The future of content writing jobs is nothing but outstanding.

And the demand will continue to rise as the world becomes more and more digital.

So to answer the primary question – The future of content writing jobs is nothing but secure and great. You could build a successful career as a content writer with great scope and opportunities without really having to worry about AI taking over your job or clients.

Alright, so now that you know there is no AI taking your job away. Let me share with you how you could go on to build a successful career.

What to FOCUS on to build a successful career as a Content Writer?

While there is no AI taking your job away. But, there is just one thing you need to be careful about while building your career.

It’s choosing not to be Average or Mediocre.

Before I continue, you should listen to this episode of ‘The Marketing Nerdz Podcast’ that I recorded for you.

In this episode, I go deeper into the topic of building a successful career as a Content Writer. Listen below.

I hope that you listened to the podcast. Like I said in the podcast, the Biggest MISTAKE most people make when it comes to their career is – choosing to be average.

It’s people with average skills that get replaced first when technology changes, there is a new innovation, the economy is down, or the company they are working for is not making PROFITS.

So if you aren’t skilled, if you don’t choose to become good at what you do…you do not have a secure future in any space, in any industry.

You are always at the RISK of losing your job.

But when you choose to become good at what you do… No matter what industry or profession you choose to build your career in, you would NEVER be Replaced.

In fact, companies will line up to hire you because you are good at what you do.

So if you want to build a Successful Career in Content Writing or any field… FOCUS on building your skills. As the title of the book – Be So Good that they can’t IGNORE You.

And TRUST me, there is nothing that you will ever have to FEAR or worry about as far as your career is concerned.
The future of content writing
So to conclude:
Here’s what you need to do.

Forget these discussions because they’re not productive. It’s like news media.

The more you listen to it, the more fearful you become.

Just forget these discussions and spend the majority of your time focused on building your skills, developing the skills, becoming a better content writer, becoming a better digital marketer, becoming a better salesperson, becoming a better entrepreneur.

In a nutshell, becoming better at what you do. And when you do that, you would never, ever be fearful of anybody replacing you.

And most importantly, you would be prepared for the next transition that happens in your space, in your industry.

A skilled individual is always prepared for the transition and moves ahead with the change and the transition that happens in the industry.

In fact, I posted this video on YouTube which explains this strategy briefly. Please watch this first before I dive deep into my 7 Step Formula.

How to get clients and make money as a Digital Marketer with my 7 step formula!

Freelance Digital Marketer Roadmap

I’ll now walk you through each step of the process in detail.

Step 1 of 7: Define your happiness number.

How to get new clients

Define Your Happiness Number!

Now, this may sound very basic, but it’s really important that you do this. The reason most Freelancers struggle financially is that they never plan for it. The first thing you need to do before you actually start working on your Freelance Career is to be aware of the amount of money you would need each month to meet your Lifestyle Goals and Pay Your Bills.

This is the 1st thing we ask all our students in the 10 Lac Club – Coaching Program to do. We ask them to put on paper an amount that they must earn each month to meet all their needs and stick that page at a place where they can see it every single day.

Remember, you are a Freelancer now. If you don’t work, if you don’t go find clients, money ain’t coming home. So seeing this number every day serves as a good reminder to go get the work done to build your Freelance Business.

So now that you know why this is Important, let’s go ahead and calculate this amount. When you calculate, make sure you factor in everything. For example – your rent, EMI’s, bills, travel, food, vacation, diesel, etc. Now, whatever amount you come up with after calculating all your expenses, you want to add an additional 20K to it.

Let’s say, hypothetically after calculating all your Expenses and Lifestyle Needs, you come up with a figure of Rs 80,000. So the number you should aim at each month is Rs. 1 Lac.

You always want to make a little more than what you need. You want to Save and Invest for a rough day or an unexpected calamity. So the additional 20K is for your Investment purposes.

Alright, so now that you have your Happiness Number on paper and stuck to a wall, let’s go to Step 2, the more technical aspects of running a Freelance Business.

How to Get New Clients: Step 2 & 3 of 7

Your BIG Promise to Your Ideal Clients!

I’ve combined Step 2 and 3 because they are intertwined and connected. Please read on and it will all make sense, I promise!

The Common Mistake most Freelance Digital Marketers make is they offer every Digital Marketing Service to every possible client from every possible industry. They offer SEO, Campaign Management, Email Marketing, Content Marketing, Social Media Marketing, etc to clients in E-Commerce, B2B, B2C, Service industry, etc.

Trying to be everything to everyone is the BIGGEST Mistake in marketing.

Plus, it also Hampers Your Growth as a Freelancer, here’s why:

Let’s assume that you work with 3 clients today. One a pure B2B business – a manufacturing company, the second one an E-commerce company and the third one is a Motivational Speaker. And if we also assume that you are doing Google Ads management for client #1, SEO for client #2, and Facebook ads for client #3.

Now as a one-man or woman army, as a Freelancer – You have to learn, study and understand 3 different industries to deliver results to your clients which is a heck of a difficult job. Knowing it all about 1 industry is difficult, to say the least, and when you have to research 3 different industries and be updated about them, you are increasing your workload exponentially.

Well, and your problems don’t just end with trying to learn and understand about 3 different industries and its audience. The fact that you offer so many different services, you also need to be updated and have to master different domains of Digital Marketing which is a really time-intensive thing. You need to be at the top of the latest changes in SEO, Facebook Ads, Google Ads, Email Automation, etc.

It’s like trying to do masters in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, etc. When you chase too many rabbits, you’ll catch none. Similarly, if you try and master too many concepts in too many subjects, you won’t become good at any one of it, right?

That’s why You should NEVER offer multiple services as a Freelancer unless you have a BIG team where every member specializes in a different vertical of Digital Marketing.

The key to making a Great Living and Having the Freedom and Time as a Freelance Digital Marketer is to become a Specialist. Like a doctor that specializes in one thing.

Focus On One

ONE

Pick one vertical of Digital Marketing that you love and are really good at, and focus on delivering Great Results to your clients with that one thing.

Your one thing could be SEO or Instagram Growth, or it could be PPC campaigns…

So in a nutshell: Pick one service. Pick one industry that you are passionate about or already know about. And Create a marketing message talking about the results you can deliver to a client in that industry with that one service.

Remember this: Clients don’t hire you for SEO or PPC ads. They hire you hoping they would get more Clients/Customers and make more Profits. So you need to start selling results to your clients – with a Results-Driven Marketing Message for your Service.

Here is an example assuming you love SEO: I can help you increase your Organic Traffic by at least 150% in 90 days.

If you would like to learn how to create a laser-targeted marketing message and service name for your agency, Sign up for the 10 Lac Club 2.0 Program! Creating a Results-Driven Marketing Message is extremely Important if you would like to Attract Clients who pay you a high fee! So, I hope the SEO example above serves as a great reference point for you to create your own message.

So to re-iterate step 2 and 3:  Pick one service – Pick one industry and

Craft your Results Driven Message!

Now that you have your foundation ready – let’s go find some clients – shall we?

How to make money as a Freelance Digital Marketer: Step 4 of 7

How to get new clients

Prospecting: Where do they hang out?

By this point, we are crystal clear about the kind of clients you want to work with and the industry you want to work for. And by this point, we also have your Results-Driven Message ready for your Ideal Clients.

So the next thing you need to do is get in touch with your Ideal Clients and let them know you exist. You could do this by tapping into platforms where your clients hang out.

Let’s say, you want to work with clients in the IT industry because you have an IT background.

Great, in this step, you want to ask yourself, where do my Ideal Clients hang out the most?

Well, the 1st place that comes to my mind is – LinkedIn.

Awesome! So now that we know they hang out on LinkedIn, if you already don’t have a profile on LinkedIn, you want to create one and start connecting with your potential clients. In the 10 Lac Club – Coaching Program, I teach our students my 4 Step LinkedIn Client Attraction Process.

Apart from LinkedIn, there are two other remarkable platforms to look for these clients. Want to know the names of those platforms? I usually share these names with my students only but I’m making the exception of sharing it on this blog post. So without further ado, the names of those two platforms where you could look for your ideal clients are:

Upwork: www.Upwork.com, and

Freelancer: www.Freelancer.com, or www.Freelancer.in

(I’ve hired some extremely talented freelancers from these sites).

And last but not the least, you could even search for your potential clients on Google and find the email ids of the right people in the company you are targeting by using a tool like www.Findthatlead.com or www.Findthatemail.com.

You see, our goal at this step is to start connecting with your potential clients. And when I say connection, I don’t mean sending out spammy messages or emails like:

Hi Sir,

I’m XYZ and I do this and this. I’ve so much experience and I’m the best, I’m this, I’m that…etc.

Give me your project and I’ll prove it to you.

Well, this is what most Freelancers do and you don’t want to be one of them.

Digital Marketing Freelancing Network

At this step, you want to start off by building a relationship with your potential clients. You do it by reading more about them, their work, and connecting with them on something that really stood out for you while reading about their work.

I teach about this in detail in the 10 Lac Club – Coaching Program. I share all my templates with our students so they can start off the connection building process on the right foot. If you want more details – you can know more about the program here.

But I’m hoping you get the point of what needs to be done. Connect NOT Sell!

So to Re-iterate: You want to start connecting with your prospects by sending them personalized messages. Your goal should be to connect with at least 10 prospects every day so you always have your pipeline full and you never run out of clients.

Please note – Not everyone you message or send out emails to will respond to you. If you send out the generalized message, you would be lucky to get 1 out of 10 prospects to respond to you.

If you send out personalized messages as I teach in the 10 Lac Club – Coaching Program, you should see at least 2 out of 5 clients responding to you, which is a great number.

So let’s assume you create and send out the personalized message like the ones I teach to all our students in the 1 Lac Club, the next step is to catch up with your potential clients over a ‘Cup of Coffee’.

How to Get A New Clients – Step 5

Client meeting

 It’s Coffee Time!

Now that you have some connection going on with 4 out of the first 10 prospects we reach out to, it’s time to fix a meeting with them (a phone call would do if they are in a different city or country).

The message to fix the meeting could be a Simple one, something along these lines:

Hey Firstname,

Hope this week started on an amazing note for you.

I don’t know if you know this. I specialize in working with IT Companies by helping them Increase their Website Traffic Organically by at least 150% in JUST 3 months.

How are you placed this week? I was wondering if we could catch up over a cup of Coffee and I could show you how I can help boost your website traffic organically by at least 150% in Just 3 months.

Look forward to meeting you.

Cheers!

Coffee Time

This is just one of the message templates from the 10 Lac Club – Coaching Program. Students who are a part of the program receive all my Proven and Tested message templates to help them fix more meetings and get more clients.

Now if you notice in the message above, I wasn’t talking about SEO here. If you loop back to what I told you earlier, Clients only care about Results, not the technicalities.

If I message a client saying, let’s grab a Coffee so I can sell my SEO Services to you, 99.9999% times, you will never hear back from the Client!

So remember, the key here is to create messages that talk about the benefit a prospect would have if they met you. You need to customize the message a little bit for each client based on their earlier response.

Of course, not all prospects would agree to meet you or respond to your message. So what do we do in this scenario?

If you go back to the Main Flow Chart above, you would see that at Step 5, if a prospect does not reply, we have a 3 message sequence that goes out 8 days apart.

So in the next 8 days, you send them 3 different follow-up messages.

These messages cannot be pushy or salesy. At no point in time, you want to appear Desperate. So don’t send out messages like – Interested? Can we talk? Hello, did you read my message?

You get the point, right? Messages like these would kill the conversation and client conversion.

Here is what you should be sending out instead. Now I wished I could have posted all the 3 messages here, but then it would turn this blog post into a 50,000-word book. So instead of posting the complete message templates, I will give you a gist of what needs to go out in these messages.

Of course, if you would like to get all our templates and need mentoring in learning this system in detail to Kick-Start Your Freelance Career, click here and sign up for the 10 Lac Club.

So coming back, here is a gist of the 3 messages:

Message 1: A gentle reminder about your earlier message with a helpful tip.

Message 2: Some development in their industry, you want to verify with them because they are the expert. This is just one of the ways to get someone to respond.

Message 3: A hack their competitor is using to get better results that they should incorporate.

If you send out these follow-up messages in the next 8 days, you most likely would get a Go-Ahead for the meeting or the phone call.

Remember this, not every prospect is going to say Yes!

That’s why in the main Flow Chart, you see I ask you to repeat Steps 4 to 7. As I told you earlier, your goal is to reach out to 10 New Prospects every day. So you end up with at least 2 meetings or phone calls each day. That’s about 60 Meetings approximately in a month. And from these, even if you are the worst communicator and you end up closing only 2 clients at 50K/month, that’s enough to get you to the 1 Lac per month mark.

And if each client works with you for say an average of 3 months, then from the second month, your earning goes up to 2 Lac and so on and so forth.

But hey hey hey, let’s come back to the article.

We still haven’t Closed the Client, we still haven’t turned the Prospect into a Client. At Step 5, we just got a YES for the meeting. While we should celebrate this, we should also remember that the battle is still half won!

You have a Major Challenge coming up now, which is where MOST Freelancers and Entrepreneurs Fail – Selling their Service. So let’s talk about Step 6, shall we?

Step 6 of 7 to Start And Grow A Successful Freelance Digital Marketing Career:

Client meeting

The Meeting

The 2 Biggest Mistakes that most Freelancers or Service Providers make while meeting a potential client are:

1) They sell their services for cheap! Most Freelancers undercharge and sign up clients for peanuts. They look at some low-end service providers and what they charge and end up quoting low fees to the clients.

2) They promise to do 10 things for the price of 1. So while trying to sell the client on SEO services, most Freelancers end up saying, I’ll do Social Media Management, Designing, Content, etc for the same fee.

Now the reason why most Freelancers make these Mistakes is that they don’t have a Client Communication Script and they don’t know how to handle common client objections.

The SECRET to getting paid a HIGH fee that you Deserve and having a client work with you for the long-term is your Communications Skills and how well you handle client objections.

You see, most Freelancers try and sell their service during the meeting and not the results. And to get the contract, they start pitching how they are better and cheaper than others.

Your goal in the meeting is to NOT pitch but Probe Your Potential Clients. By this, I mean, you should be asking them the challenges they are going through as far as your service is concerned. You should be trying to discover their needs and then talk about how your service is a solution to their Challenge.

Most Freelancers and Service Provides do it the other way around and they end up getting objections like:

  • I’ll think about it and let you know
  • I need to speak to my partner, I’ll get back to you
  • I’m getting a better deal with this other freelancer, so I’ll pass.

And because they don’t have a script to handle these objections, they come out of the meeting empty-handed or with a client that’s paying them peanuts.

To make sure you Close the Clients at the Fees you Deserve, you need to Control the Meeting. And that can only happen when you have a Client Communication Script, so you exactly know what to say when.

You know exactly what to say, when a prospect says, I’ll think it over and get back to you…

You know exactly what to say, when a prospect says, I’ll speak to my partner and get back…

These are very common objections and if you have the right scripts to prepare yourself for the meeting, you can easily overcome these objects and close the client.

Now I wish, I could share all the scripts we give our students in the 10 Lac Club here. But like I said earlier, this would turn this article into a book.

If you want to learn all the Client Communication Secrets, Objection Handling Secrets and Get all our Scripts and Templates, Click here to join the 10 Lac Club – Coaching Program. We have dedicated 4-week training in the program to help you develop these Client Communication Skills.

Digital Marketing Client Meeting

But if you don’t want to Invest and Speed track your Growth and Freelance Career and you prefer to do it on your own, you could read some books on Closing. Although these book would help you learn the Closing Part, it’s not the complete formula. It doesn’t teach you how to Greet, Start, and Lead. But it’s a good place to start to build your own scripts.

Remember at the start of this article, I told you that as a Freelancer, apart from technical Digital Marketing expertise, you are now responsible for Getting a Client, Communicating with a Client, Negotiating the Fees, and Managing the Client after you begin with the service.

So this is the most critical step in the 7 Step Process – Client Communication.

How to communicate with a client.

This is the 1st time you actually speak to a potential client and it all boils down to how well you Communicate in this Meeting or the Phone Call. So whether you decide to join the 10 Lac Club – Coaching Program to develop these skills or you do it on your own – practicing and getting better at this step – should be in your Daily To-Do List!

To Re-Iterate:  Get Your Client Communication Scripts In Place either by joining a proven program or by building them on your own. Practise Everyday for at least 20 minutes.

To Close the Client and Get the BIG Fee – You need to Lead the Meeting, Probe Well, Prepare to Handle Objections and Close the Client.

Alright, so by the end of this step, you’ve signed up your first client. It’s time to celebrate. You did great! But wait, there is one last thing you need to do well before you go out and celebrate all out.

Because if you don’t do a good job at Step 7, you may probably ruin everything you did from Step 1 to Step 7.

What am I talking about? Let’s jump right at that in step 7.

Step 7 of 7 to Start And Grow A Successful Freelance Digital Marketing Career:

Client Management

Let’s assume that You do a great job communicating and leading the meeting and the client signs up. But once he goes back, he speaks to his partner and for whatever reason feels like he did a mistake by signing up.

You know the common “Buyer’s Remorse”.

I’m sure, we have all felt guilty sometime or the other in our life after making a purchase. And when that happens, all we want is the Money Back! It could happen to your clients too, not because you did something wrong. But only because somewhere, deep inside they are still not confident that they would get the result you promised.

So before that happens to the client that you just signed up,  you want to make sure you eliminate any doubt they have in their mind about hiring you as a Freelancer. You want to build their confidence immediately after they sign you up.

This can be done in multiple ways by having a fixed and documented client management process. Our students in the 1 Lac Club – Coaching Program have access to all the Client Communicationation and Management Templates.

Here are some Client Communicationation and Management Templates you need to create:

1) Welcome Kit:

As soon as a Client Signs Up, send them a Welcome Email or a Welcome Kit! The purpose of this is to reinforce the belief in you. A typical Welcome Kit would have a copy of the Contract, the Agreement Letters, and a Warm Welcoming Email.

2) Set the Expectations:

When you send the welcome kit, you want to make sure that you set their expectations right from Day 1. You see, the #1 Mistake Freelancers or Service Providers make is to NOT let the clients know what they can expect from day 1. And when you leave it open, the clients build their own expectations which in most cases is above and over what you discussed to deliver. So you need to have it all documented and deliver to the clients, so they have the right expectations. And when you set this up correctly, the relationship most likely becomes a long one. It should include Payment Terms, Reporting Timeline, Communication Guidelines, and most importantly you need to include what results they could expect in the next 10 days, 30 days and 3 months.

3) Make them a Part of the Project:

Not being in the loop is the #1 reason clients end services with Freelancers or Service Providers. You want to make sure that your client is updated about everything that’s happening as far as the project is concerned. Of course, you don’t want to call them every day or send them daily reports. You could do it by using an App like Trello or Slack. We teach our students to use both, Trello and Slack for their client projects.

Trello Card

An Image From Trello

The whole point is to create Trello Cards with specific time framed benchmarks and update all the project progress in their respective Trello Cards. And since the clients are added to their exclusive Trello Boards (Projects), they see a real-time update of everything that’s happening with respect to their project.

We teach our students to eliminate email communication completely and only communicate via Trello and Slack. This reduces the chances of any confusion with clients and hence lays a foundation to build a strong relationship.

Well, if you Implement JUST  these 3 Client Management steps, the clients will want to work with you for the long run, and running your Freelance Business would almost be Stree-Free!

I hope I was able to give you a Framework on how to get clients and make money as a Freelance Digital Marketer. This is the exact framework I use to date to get new clients for my Digital Marketing Agency and Content Marketing Company (Contentorial). I guarantee that if you follow my process and steps to the Letter, you would end up with New and Happy Clients Each Month. And you should be able to meet your Income and Lifestyle goals – easily (given you follow the process and put in the work).

My original plan was to write a 2000 word article. I just realized that this one turned into an almost 5200+ words post and a little less than 4500 words after editing 🙂 But more than the word count, I hope you would learn and implement my system to get new clients and make money as a freelance Digital Marketer.

How to Become a Good Copywriter in FLAT 30 Days.

I hope you watched the video and made notes. Below I reveal some advanced steps to become a good copywriter.

1st Step To Become A Good Copywriter – Read Fiction every day for 30 Minutes

How to become a Good Copywriter

If you want to be a good copywriter, you need to develop 2 important skills.

1) The skill of Story-Telling

2) And the skill to build Relatable or Aspiring Characters

Remember this – Your primary goal as a copywriter is to get your readers to take some action.

Action like:

– Clicking on a link
– Buying a product or
– Filling out a form

And the only time a reader will take action is when they can relate to your story or the characters in your story (Copy).

So to become a good copywriter, you need to learn how to write good stories. And one way to develop your story-telling skills is to read a lot of fiction.

If you are serious about building your career as a copywriter, here is one thing you should do every day.

Read fiction for at least 30 minutes a day.

I usually read fiction 30 minutes before I hit the bed. Pick a time you like… When you read is not as important as you read fiction every day.

Pick up classics like:
  •  The Great Gatsby
  • Pride and Prejudice
  • A Tale of Two Cities
  • The Brothers Karamazov

These are good books, to begin with.

Remember, the goal to read fiction is not entertainment. But to learn how to tell great-stories from legendary writers.

2nd Step To Become A Good Copywriter:
Read At least 1 Control every day And Re-Write It!

How to Become a Good Copywriter

In the copywriting world – the copy that generates the highest conversion is called a CONTROL.

Please watch the video below to know more about what exactly is a Control.

So now that you know what control is… The next logical question is – where can I find these controls?

Thankfully, there is a great resource for it.

It’s called – Swiped.co

On Swiped, you can find controls for specific industries as shown in the example below:

Swiped.co

You can even find the controls for best Facebook Ads, Emails, Landing Pages, etc.

Apart from Swiped, another great resource to find controls is Clickbank.com.

Once you head to Clickbank, search for their best-selling products in different categories. When you find the products, check out their sales copies – another great resource to find controls.

Here is an example:

Clickbank

So to become a good copywriter, apart from reading fiction for 30 minutes every day. You should pick one control from either Swiped or Clickbank and read through it at least 5 times.

When you read through it, remember to FOCUS.

Focus on:

  • The writing style
  • The secret structure of the copy
  • The story-telling technique
  • How the copy builds Aspiring Characters that readers relate to
  • Emotions triggered in the copy
  • Specific examples used to build Trust
  • How the copy builds Social Proof

These are some of the aspects you want to study in the control you pick to read.

You may not catch them all in your first read. That’s why read the control at least 5 times with focus.

Every time you read the control, I promise you will pick something new in the copy that you missed earlier.

Make notes.

Write down everything you pick in the control that you think made the copy great.

Alright, so after you read through the same control 5 times. It’s now time to close the control, shut down the tab. If you have a print-out of the control, keep it aside.

It’s now time to write.
Online Copywriting Course

Open a new Word doc or your favorite writing app.

Once you have your writing editor open, with all other tabs closed and your phone on silent mode…. Start writing.

Write a copy selling the same product you read about 5 times. Write non-stop for at least 30 minutes.

At this point, it doesn’t matter if your copy is good or bad.
You just want to write… And write without stopping for 30 minutes.

Let the ideas flow.

See if you can come up with another angle in your copy to sell the product.

Maybe, you can tell a different story to sell the product.

Let your mind run wild and write.

This exercise is specifically designed to help you get into a habit of writing every day. You know, it’s surprising…
But a lot of people who aspire to become copywriters don’t write at all.

They read, they watch videos about copywriting… But never write.

So this exercise will help you get into a pattern of writing every day. While reading a new control every day will train your subconscious to become a good copywriter.

This step should take about an hour every day.

3rd Step to Become A Good Copywriter – Become a Master of the Human Behavior

How to Become A Good Copywriter
To become a good copywriter, you need to master how human beings function.

You need to understand – why we humans do what we do?
Why we buy certain products over others?
Why we become friends with some people and dislike some?
What influences our decision making?

And if you understand that, you can go on to become a Great Copywriter.

To understand human behavior, you should dive deep into:
  • Neuro-Linguistics Programming
  • Conversation Hypnosis
  • Dip to Rise Structure and
  • Strategic Intervention

You can find a lot of videos or books on these topics on YouTube or Amazon.

All you need to do is invest about 15 minutes a day on learning about the human mind. That’s it.

4th Step to Become A Good Copywriter – Learn from Master Mentors

How to Become A Good Copywriter
I’m a big believer in learning from someone who is already where I want to be.

Learning from someone successful can help you become successful way faster. There is no point in wasting time in trial and error when someone else knows the path.

That’s why I have had a lot of mentors in my copywriting journey. In fact, I still work with 2 different mentors.

So as far as possible, hire Mentors to cut-short your path to success. Pay for their time, and in exchange save your time and become successful faster.

One way to do this to become a good copywriter is by signing up for my 11 Week Online Copywriting Course. Sign up for the copywriting course here.

And apart from that, here is another thing that you should include in your daily routine… Which is learn from Master Mentors.

Master mentors are people who change the industry with their work but are not open to mentoring.

Thankfully, we can still learn from them by reading their books.

You can find the entire list of Top Copywriting books from Master Mentors in the video below.

Pick these books, and block 15 minutes every day to read a chapter from one of these books. These 15 minutes will be the most invaluable 15 minutes you invest every day to become a good copywriter.

Alright, these were the 4 steps to becoming a good copywriter. If you are serious about becoming one – follow them for at least a couple of months… And trust me, you will be well on your way to building a great career as a copywriter.

Now at this point – if you are feeling like this is a lot of work and a lot of reading to do. Honestly, it’s not.

In fact, it’s fun if you think of it.

You are getting to read fiction.
You are getting to learn how to influence people.

Isn’t that fun or what?

And we are talking about becoming a good copywriter… So you need to train like one, don’t you?

Plus so far, all you need is about 2 hours every day. That’s it.

Think of all the amazing things that you could look forward to after you start working as a copywriter…

Imagine the freedom.

The money.

The life of your dreams – work from anywhere on your own timeline.

All of it could be a reality in a few months from now once you become a good copywriter.

And all you need to become a good copywriter is to follow my plan for a few months… That’s it.

Alright then, I hope this was helpful.

I look forward to seeing you become successful as a Copywriter.

Keep writing. And if you have any questions, drop them in the comments below.

Karan Dharamsi The Marketing Nerdz CASH On DELIVERY: My E-Commerce Experiment

15 Jan Find the results of my NO CASH on DELIVERY experiment here!

CASH On DELIVERY (COD) to me is a double edged sword. You can’t IGNORE it, and yet when you use COD, it ends up putting a BIG hole in your pocket.

Although, the number of customers increase thanks to Cash on Delivery Payment Option… here are a few things I noticed.

1) The Refund Requests is relatively higher from COD Customers compared to customers who pay online.

2) COD customers need more management, thus more employees and Customer Support Time.

3) This was an observation which was later verified with data – COD customers generally tend to be more RUDE with the Customer Support and in general compared to Customers that pay online. Of course, it’s subjective to an extent. I’m a COD customer myself. But I hope you can see the point here.

4) As an extension to the 3rd point, the Attrition Rate in the Phone Support is higher (Which is mostly Virtual in my company). Thus adding to the Stress Levels.

5) And lastly, the negative reviews or the Threat of Negative Reviews (most times customers aren’t home to accept the order) is higher from COD customers.

Given all these factors, I recently decided to get rid of the COD option.

Here is what actually happened:

1) My sales dropped by over 60%.

2) My CPA went HIGH.

3) The refund rate dramatically decreased.

4) My net profit went up drastically.

5) My Stress levels were almost down to ZERO.

6) I needed less staff and the team was happier in general.

So to conclude: If you run an E-Commerce Store in India, doing away with COD is something you should test.

Here’s a detailed video I created sharing the results of this E-Commerce experiment.

Warning: My suggestion is my personal opinion and not a prescription. If you are losing money with COD, if you are stressed all the time… Then it’s a worth while option to test getting rid of COD.

You may lose out on a lot of sales. But you would be happier and will actually take home more MONEY because your net profit will be higher.

Note: If you plan to have investors on-board, then please don’t test this option out. A BIG Revenue (Top Line) is what you need to show your investors… So the volume of sales is important and COD plays a BIG role in getting more sales.

What's BAD About SELLING a Course on UDEMY Karan Dharamsi The Marketing Nerdz

13 Jan What’s BAD About SELLING A Course On UDEMY?

Why I’m not a Fan of Selling Courses on Udemy! Why You Should NOT Start Off By Selling Your Courses on Udemy!

Now, the Reason I Say NO to Udemy is because you want to start off by Projecting Your Brand Correctly.

You see, Udemy is like any Marketplace. Just like Amazon. Just like Flipkart. Where you can find different products – in this case different courses on different topics. You can pick and choose based on reviews.

The Reason I do not ever suggest anybody to start out by selling on marketplace is because you Lose that Brand Value / Brand Perception.

Why I say ‘Do NOT Start off by Selling on Udemy’ is because You’ll Fall in that Category where You’ll be Compared with Every other Tom, Dick & Harry who’s Selling on Udemy.
The Perception of Your Brand, and Your Courses will fall down. And it may likely never recover.

Either You Could be the “Apple” or OYO…
Do You Think OYO Customers will be Happy to Pay Rs. 25,000/- for a night?

If You are Launching a Brand and If You Plan to Charge a Premium, and Have High End Products, DO NOT Start on Udemy. Why?
Well, I give a very detailed and descriptive reasoning about it in this video.

In the video, I also talk about:

✔ The Power of Branding

✔ The Magic of Marketing

✔ How NOT to Lose Your Brand Value / Brand Perception…

Sad State Digital Marketing India 2020 Karan Dharamsi The Marketing Nerdz

12 Jan The Sad State of Digital Marketing in India in 2020

CHEAP, CHEAP, CHEAP, CHEAP, CHEAP….
If you look around, you would see, that’s what the Digital Marketing industry is moving towards.
You now see ads where Digital Marketing Courses are sold for JUST Rs. 99.
You now have Digital Marketing Service Providers who offer to work as Digital Marketers for Just Rs. 999/Month.

And the SAD part is… A very LARGE Percentage of Marketers are now moving in this Fight to being the CHEAPEST.

Most Marketers today Just use the age old tool – which is now slowly becoming an ineffective tool of Creating FAKE URGENCY and Offering HYPED Up DISCOUNTS

I see very few marketers today know/understand the TRUE form of Marketing – Story Telling and Character Building
And that’s why, most resort to just slashing the PRICE and selling their Courses/Services for Peanuts.
History PROVES that the battle to being the CHEAPEST Provider is a tough one to WIN in the long-run and most businesses are Burnt in this battle before they see the light of the day.

If you are a Marketer – I URGE You to STOP playing the Game of Being the CHEAPEST. Please realize the Potential of what you do and charge the amount YOU Deserve
The marketplace always pays for the VALUE, the Value YOU demonstrate.

Don’t undervalue YOUR Products/Services
And don’t participate in the Game of Cheapness, Oh, I mean being the Cheapest Provider.

You know, funnily, I think there will be a day when someone will come up with an Ad saying – I will pay you 99 bucks to join my course 😉
If YOU are a REAL Marketer – Stay TRUE to your Worth.

Deepika Padukone The Marketing Nerdz Karan Dharamsi

09 Jan Deepika Padukone Wins The Boldest Marketer Of The Year Award In My Books!

Today’s post can be a little controversial, and can be Misconstrued if you don’t read it objectively.

I’m not here judging Deepika Padukone or taking a moral High-Ground.

In fact, it’s the complete opposite. I’m here praising her and her PR and Marketing team for the Bold and Risky Marketing Move to Promote her new movie.

Now, I know some people reading this may feel I’m being Insensitive.
So before you read ahead, let me re-iterate.

My analysis here is purely objective. It’s just from a marketing Stand-Point.
Neither you nor I know what Deepika’s real intent was. And honestly, I don’t care about her Intent.

I have a political view on the whole incident, but in this post, I only plan to talk about the Marketing Side of things keeping the politics aside.

So are we cool looking at it objectively from a marketing perspective?

I’m assuming you said, YES!
Great.

Let’s continue the analysis.

You see, in Marketing, Timing is everything.

And Deepika Padukone is now officially my favorite marketer with her latest move.

Her JNU Visit AKA Solidarity support couldn’t have come at a better time – Her Movie Release.

Here is what it did for her:

✔️ Made her the center of conversation of every media debate including my post.

✔️ Enhanced her persona and image as a BOLD, Courageous, and STRONG woman – really aligned with her character and the real life person she is playing on screen.

✔️ All in all, it’s a move that’s going to bump up the sales of her movie tickets. A lot of it now driven by this new Persona plus the induced Admiration and Super-Heroine indoctrination.

Yes, some would say, it was just a Marketing Gimmick…

A Publicity Stunt…

Maybe. Maybe not.

For the purpose of this article, I don’t care about the Politics of it.

Looking at it purely as a Marketer… I ADMIRE Deepika’s Courage.
It takes B**ls to do what she did with everything she has on stake and to lose.

Personally – I have to give Deepika full marks here for taking a Huge RISK and standing up against the Government. She surely made a lot of enemies with her move while winning some people over too.

So Kudos to her.

I have a detailed video on this. Watch below.
